NEA extends GWP limits to commercial refrigeration — from July 2027

On 28 May 2026 the National Environment Agency announced that GWP limits will extend to commercial refrigeration and vehicle air-conditioning, building on the 2022 HFC framework under Part 10A of the EPMA.

From July 2027, new centralised systems of the type used in supermarkets must use refrigerants with GWP not exceeding 150 — aligning Singapore with EU and Japan limits. Existing systems may run to the end of their service life. Cold rooms are not capped; only NEA registration and disposal rules apply.

From July 2027, dismantling of RAC equipment must follow proper disposal procedures and be registered with NEA. Recovered refrigerant goes to licensed waste collectors, with records kept for five years. From July 2028, new passenger cars and light goods vehicles must meet the same GWP 150 limit.

CO₂ / R744 (GWP 1) and R290 propane (GWP 3) clear the limit. SCM Frigo CUBO₂ condensing units and booster racks are compliant today. R452A (GWP ~2,000) remains a drop-in for existing HFC plant, not a route for new supermarket systems.

How to choose: five or more years of life left on a healthy rack → retrofit to an A1 blend (R448A, R449A, R452A). New supermarket plant → CO₂. Thomson or Central can walk the site with you.
